Microfinance Training

Training for SACCOs, microfinance institutions, and their boards in Uganda: lending that is well managed, a loan book that is honestly reported, and records that hold up in front of a regulator or an auditor.

A loan book that tells the truth about itself.

A microfinance institution carries its risk in many small loans, and a problem in the book can grow for months before it shows in the accounts. Kisaka & Company trains loan officers, managers, finance staff, and board and committee members across Uganda in credit management, portfolio quality, accounting, and governance, so trouble shows up in the reports early.

Training is built around the institution in the room: a SACCO or money lender under the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority, a deposit-taking institution under the Bank of Uganda, or a programme lending donor funds. We work from your credit policy, your loan reports, and anonymised files from your portfolio where you can share them.

At a glance

What you can expect when Kisaka & Company trains a SACCO or microfinance institution.

Portfolio first

Arrears, portfolio at risk, provisioning, and write-offs taught from your own loan reports, so staff learn to read the book they manage.

The rules for your tier

Sessions follow the law, the regulator, and the credit policy that apply to your institution, not a general banking course.

Each role, its own depth

Loan officers, managers, finance staff, and board members need different things. We agree who attends before we write the timetable.

Microfinance training services

Illustrative scope — the curriculum depends on your tier, your regulator, your credit policy, and who attends. We confirm deliverables in an engagement letter before work begins.

Credit management

Appraisal, approval, disbursement, monitoring, and recovery: the loan cycle taught from your own policy, with the checks that stop a bad loan before it is made.

Portfolio quality & reporting

Arrears ageing, portfolio at risk, provisioning, and the reports management and the board should see every month.

Accounting & records

Interest, fees, savings, and loan-loss provisions posted correctly, with member and loan records kept so the ledger and the loan system agree.

Governance for boards & committees

The roles of the board, the credit committee, and the supervisory committee; conflicts of interest and insider lending; and following up audit and regulator findings.

How we run the engagement

A short design cycle so the training fits your tier, your policy, and your loan book.

01

Agree the audience

We confirm who will attend, which law and regulator apply, and which problems in the portfolio or the last audit you want the training to address.

02

Design the programme

We write the timetable, exercises, and cases, using your credit policy and loan reports where you can share them, and agree duration and venue.

03

Run the sessions

We deliver at your head office, a branch, or in Kampala, and keep the discussion on your files and your figures.

04

Leave the pack

We hand over slides, exercises, and a short note of issues raised, so management can follow them up and brief staff who missed the session.
