Selected work

Numbers that hold up. Advice that holds its ground.

Twenty-seven years of audit, tax and advisory work across East Africa. What follows is a walk through eight engagements — what the client was facing, what we did, and what changed.

The practice

Certified public accountants who stay for the hard part.

We audit, we advise, and we stay through implementation. Most of the work on this page started as a statutory engagement and turned into something longer, because the findings mattered more than the file.

The index

01 External audit Manufacturing group · 2023–2026 Closing the books on time, three years running The situation A five-entity manufacturing group had missed its statutory deadline two years in a row. Consolidation was the bottleneck: three ledgers, two currencies, and intercompany balances nobody could agree on. What we did We rebuilt the consolidation pack, agreed the intercompany protocol with each finance lead before year-end rather than during it, and moved the group audit to a phased interim schedule. 02 Internal audit Financial services · 2024–2026 Standing up an internal audit function from zero The situation A fast-growing SACCO had a board audit committee, a regulator asking questions, and no internal audit function to answer them with. What we did We ran the first two cycles ourselves while training the incoming team, wrote the charter and the risk-based annual plan, and handed over a function that could stand on its own. 03 Tax & legal advisory Trade & distribution · 2025 A tax position that held at the tribunal The situation An assessment landed that would have taken a year of working capital out of the business. The client's own file did not explain how the original position had been reached. What we did We reconstructed the technical basis from primary records, briefed counsel, and put the documentation in the shape the tribunal actually reads. The position was sustained. 04 Fraud investigation Confidential · 2024 Following the money through fourteen accounts The situation A routine reconciliation query became a forensic engagement when a supplier account resolved to a staff member's relative. What we did We traced the flow across fourteen accounts and three institutions, quantified the exposure, and produced a report built to survive both an insurer's review and a disciplinary hearing. 05 Public sector & donor International NGO · 2023–2025 One reporting spine for seven funders The situation Seven funders, seven templates, seven definitions of an eligible cost. The finance team was rebuilding the same numbers seven times and reconciling none of them to the statutory accounts. What we did We mapped every funder requirement onto one chart of accounts, built the reconciliation back to the statutory position, and left a close checklist the team runs monthly. 06 AI, data & digital Retail group · 2025–2026 Full-population testing on 2.1 million ledger lines The situation Sampling was not going to find it. The client suspected a control failure somewhere in a general ledger too large to test the traditional way. What we did We tested the full population rather than a sample, built the exception rules with the client's own controllers so they could re-run them, and kept professional judgement on the exceptions, not the tooling. 07 Management consultancy Financial services · 2024–2026 Rebuilding controls before a 40-branch expansion The situation The growth plan was approved and funded. The control environment behind it was built for eleven branches and held together by two people who knew where everything was. What we did We documented what those two people knew, redesigned the approval and cash controls for a branch network, and ran the first wave of branch openings alongside the client's team. 08 Procurement & training Public body · 2025 Procurement that survives the audit after it The situation Every cycle produced findings. Not fraud — process: evaluation notes that did not match scores, approvals granted out of sequence, files that could not evidence their own decisions. What we did We rewrote the procedure around the evidence an auditor asks for, trained 60 staff on it, and sat in on the first three evaluations until the file quality held without us. That’s the walk-through

Bring us the thing that isn’t adding up.

A statutory deadline you are not going to make. A finding you cannot explain. A funder asking questions you would rather answer properly the first time. Start there.
